High-Fibre and Protein Breakfast Bowl Granola Fibre bowl recipe

Is it me or is social media (and every other chat group) flooded with tips on how to add protein to your diet? It’s everywhere and enforced as if that’s the only food group that matters! Even kids are catching on to it.

My 10 year old thinks he needs to have protein shakes! I remind him he needs to first worry about his fibre intake. At his age, protein is easily supplemented through a varied diet, but reaching your fibre goals take effort.

For the longest time, I honestly thought I was hitting my daily fiber goals by eating a healthy serving of salad bowls. However, it wasn’t even half of what I needed as an adult (20 to 30gm). I added a concentrated form of fibre as a supplement, but too much of that actually does the opposite of what you want.

It turns out, you can get all the gut-health benefits you need in a sweet, vibrant breakfast bowl that feels more like dessert than a dietary requirement. Meet the star of my current morning routine: The Ultimate High-Fiber Granola Bowl.

If you are wondering how to make serious fiber ingredients actually taste incredible, you have to try this. The real game-changer here is a brilliant trick that proves exactly why I can never bring myself to delete Instagram. If you mix psyllium husk into a splash of berry juice and let it sit, it absorbs the liquid and turns into jelly consistency. It adds an amazing jam-like texture to the bowl and adds a 5-7gm fibre kick per tablespoon of husk.

Here is how to build this gorgeous, nutrient-dense breakfast bowl.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Skyr: A generous dollop of this Icelandic yogurt provides a thick, creamy, high-protein base. You can use Greek yogurt as well.
  • Chia Seeds: Soaked in a little water or coconut water to create a mini chia-pudding section. These are the tiny powerhouses that finally freed me from my salad phase!
  • Psyllium Husk & Berry Juice: The Instagram-famous hack! Mix a few spoonfuls of husk with fresh berry juice and let it sit for 5 minutes to create your jelly.
  • Fresh Fruits: Mango and berries are my favourite this season.
  • Granola: Choose your favorite crunchy blend (bonus points if it has extra nuts and seeds). It’s easy to make at home too.
  • Honey: A golden drizzle to tie all the flavors together.

How to Assemble:

  1. Prep the Jellies: About 10 minutes before you want to eat, mix your chia seeds with a splash of liquid so they can expand. In a separate bowl, stir your psyllium husk into the berry juice and let it sit until it transforms into a thick jelly. I usually make this for a few servings and keep it in the fridge.
  2. Build the Base: Spoon a generous scoop of Skyr.
  3. Arrange the Fruit: Surround the yogurt with your diced fruit.
  4. Add the Fiber Stars: Scoop in your expanded chia seeds and that brilliant psyllium jelly.
  5. Bring the Crunch: Scatter a handful of crispy granola over the top to give the bowl some necessary texture. I also add some nuts and seeds if the granola doesn’t have enough.
  6. Sweeten: Finish it all off with a generous drizzle of honey right over the yogurt and granola.

This bowl is packed with diverse textures—from the crunch of the granola to the creamy skyr and the unique, jammy bite of the psyllium jelly. It’s colorful, satisfying, and keeps you full for hours.
